Construction Inspector – North Charleston, SC

Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours per week) | Anticipated duration: August 2026 – June 2030
Position Summary
Full-time, independent construction inspection and quality surveillance services for the client’s Pier recapitalization project in North Charleston, SC. The project includes demolition of the existing pier, construction of a new pier (over 1,000 feet long by 80 feet wide), a new Electrical Support Structure, dredging, bulkhead repairs, and associated shoreside improvements (utilities, storage areas, and parking). The Construction Inspector will serve as the on-site technical representative ensuring compliance with contract drawings, specifications, and quality standards throughout construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide continuous full-time (40 hours/week) on-site surveillance of all construction activities
- Read and interpret contract drawings and specifications
- Monitor workmanship, materials, and installation methods for compliance with project requirements
- Document daily observations, deficiencies, and progress; maintain accurate inspection records
- Coordinate with the design-builder, subcontractors, and the client’s stakeholders
- Support quality control processes, testing observation, and punch-list management
- Be available for extended hours (up to 10% beyond standard workweek) as project demands require
- MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN
- Minimum of 10 years of construction experience as a Construction Inspector, Contractor Superintendent, or Quality Control Manager OR Minimum of 5 years of experience combined with a 4-year college degree in Engineering, a PE license, PMP certification, or QA/QC certifications obtained within the last 10 years
- Minimum of 2 years of experience on Federal Government construction projects (as a government CI, contractor superintendent, or quality control manager) within the last 10 years (Note: State/local projects that received federal funding do not qualify)
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Ability to work full-time on-site and accommodate occasional extended hours
Candidates should demonstrate at least two years of project experience in the following areas:
- Waterfront construction, including concrete structures in marine environments
- Site improvements involving underground utilities and stormwater management features
- Design-build project delivery
- Place of performance is the active construction site in North Charleston, SC
- Start date is estimated for late August 2026 (subject to design-builder mobilization and permitting)
- Continuity of the assigned inspector is expected for the duration of the project
- Successful candidates must be able to obtain and maintain required base access credentials
